| About Me I am Debbie Lashlee, a New York State, permanently certified Art Educator. I have been teaching in the Rockland County public school system for the past six years. I am a graduate of Saint Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, New York. I hold a degree in Art Education K - 12. As a public school educator, I have seen the need for private Art lessons. In Middle School, New York state requires only 45 days of Art classes per grade per year. In High School, Art is an elective if it can be fit into the schedule. In both, there is a clear curriculum that needs to be covered in a small amount of time, and projects are decided for the students. Large class sizes offer little opportunity for one-on-one attention. This school offers the opportunity for self-motivated Art students to independently work on projects of their choice, in their choice of medium, with the guidance of an Art teacher. There are some students who just cannot get enough of Art class. Some students only feel successful in Art class. This class gives students time set aside each week to work on Art. The small class sizes allow for individual attention. There are no grades, no progress reports, no exams, and no assigned homework. Since every student will be working on projects of their own choosing, there is no pressure to compete with anyone else. Here, we will work on Art for pure pleasure. |
